SevenCollar T-shirt launched their latest album at Cloth & Clef on the 11th of November 2009. Hmm, the event only started at 10.40pm despite stating 9pm on the flyers. Bad bad. Forty Winks was the first band to play, but everyone was sitting down, even after being asked to stand up and dance.
Prana, a band which was establish a long time ago made an appearance that night, intact with all the original band members. Their friends and supporters were evident in the crowd. They did play quite a lot of their early material, which included “The Bird Song“, one of my favorites.
This music event will highlight 4 of the most entertaining indie bands in Malaysia, with Seven Collar T-Shirt’s new album release and the comeback of Prana original members, this is the music showcase u shouldn’t miss!!
Homegrown paid its tribute to the King of Pop, Michael Jackson by holding a 2 hour tribute on the 7th of August at the Audition Hall at Wisma Bentley. The free concert featured 11 local acts of various genres each performing a different Michael Jackson song in the performer’s individual style and flavor.
It was a well staged event with 400 guests of all walks of life attending. No, this wasn’t your average rock gig. Parents came with children, artists and singers, VIPs, music fans, and everyone in between. The spread of the H1N1 virus was taken into consideration and temperature checks were conducted just before entering the auditorium.
The event started at 8.30pm with hosts Qi and local beauty Sarah Lian. The first act of the day was Asian Percussion Unit and they performed a medley of Shake Your Body & Don’t Stop Till You Get Enough through their unique beats and variety of instruments.
Laguna Music are organising their very own ‘Laguna Music Series‘ and the first one will kick off at Urban Attic,Capsquare this coming Thursday, 4th June 2009. If you attend, you will be able to catch Pure Vibracion, SevenCollar T-Shirt, Forty Winks and Yuna live, all for free!
Yes, free is good. Oh and it starts from 9pm all the way till midnight.
Pure Vibracion launched their very first album titled Love And Peace at the end January at Urbanatic, CapSquare (wasn’t free to cover it though). Yes I know it has been a while since the album has been released, but I have been too busy running around town covering events and meeting clients to actually sit down and review it. Much thanks to Bob of Laguna Records for passing me this CD (and I got it autographed by Joe and the crew as well!).
Their style of reggae is very much different compared to that of Republic of Brickfields, where Aru sings a lot like singing. In this album, Joe does sing as well, but in most songs, he does the other style of reggae, narrating style. One thing that makes Joe stand out is his airy voice, which makes him sound older and more mature.
This album weighs in at a near healthy 11 songs and the CD is an enhanced CD, with a music video in it with a couple of other extra information and photographs of the band.
The first XGIG for 2009 was held at Aloha, Melaka on the 7th of March, which is of course, organised by XFM (formerly XFresh FM). Thanks to the free entrance, loads of gig goers packed the venue even before the event started.
I managed to arrive just slightly before 2pm and when the clock struck 2, there was already a long queue outside the entrance to the venue. The entrance is well, kinda cool as it has a beachfront to the side of it, complete with a large swimming pool and coconut trees. The sunny afternoon made it feel like a holiday
Pure Vibracion will be launching its new album and will be having a party to celebrate it. Be sure to join the party and also get the chance to purchase the album at Urbanatic, CapSquare on the 5th of February 2008. Entrance is free and party will be starting at 8pm. Don’t be late!
The evening continued with Pure Vibracion, spitting out their reggae tunes, which included the English chart topping (on HitzFM) song, Mi Gal. Flag bearing was of course there, this time a blue Malaysians for Peace one, instead of the usual red, green, yellow Pure Vibracion flag.
There were backup singers for songs, but at one point, Liyana Fizi of Estrella
