Rock The World number 11, or Rock The World Adrenaline as it was called this year round, was held INSIDE Stadium Merdeka on the 10th of December 2011. There were clothing and accessories booths outside the stadium, together with then Open Mic Stage. Hmm, I figured out that the booths should be placed inside the stadium as there would be more traffic inside as compared to outside. Inside the stadium, there were the sponsor’s booths and also food/drinks stalls.
It was a really, really bright and sunny day, and I managed to catch Kyoto Protocol playing when I arrived. As a surprise, they played a cover of Killing In The Name Of by RATM before ending their set.
The band list this year was more focused on metal/hardcore-styled bands but of course, there were the usual suspects, like Pesawat and Monoloque playing. Pesawat wasted no time getting into action with songs from their new album like Brand New Day, Excuse Me, Mirage, and Bandaraya Ibu Kota.
Once the sun started to move away from the 12 o’clock position, the crowd
started to build up in front of the stage.
Fellow ska-ish band, Musik played some funky tunes, complete with brass instruments and a dreadlocked vocalist.
It was not too early for some hardcore music as Ballad For Layla dished up some heavy tunes for the fans to mosh around and crowd surf.
Monoloque, with his unique style of antique+modern music was also up just before the sun went below the horizon. Among the uniquely titled songs were Hapuskan Air Dimatamu and Tiada Kata Secantik Bahasa.
And for the song Kekanda Adinda, Atilia was roped in to help on the vocals. Amazing stuff.
Here’s what was happening outside the stadium, the booths and the Open Mic Stage:
Stay tuned for Part 2 – Evening bands
