January 2011

Everyone certainly remembered last-last year’s Rock The World (held on 26th December 2009) as a really wet one as it was pouring throughout afternoon, before finally stopping for good in the evening. Rock The World 10, fortunately, was a super dry and hot affair.

Rock The World 10 (organised by Fat Boys Productions) was held on the 26th of December 2010, which coincidentally was the same date as the Malaysia vs Indonesia AFC Suzuki Cup finals match. The concert was held at the car park just outside the stadium.

There were only 2 stages this time around (versus the 3 stages during the previous one), the Main Stage and the Indie Stage, with the Indie Stage being the smaller one of the two. In my opinion, a side-by-side stage setup would be much better (ala Sunburst), as the 2-stage affair would sometimes cause a viewer to miss out a performance due to clashing times.

The cause: Persatuan Penjagaan Kanak-kanak Cacat Klang Selangor.

The organisers: Jaguar Swiss Made.

The sponsors: Posh cars of various ginormous brands, Von Jolly Couture, Bysi, Cellabs, Hwa Jing Tour Agency and many more.

Lim Kok Wing’s Year-end Fashion Extravaganza: Creativity in Motion

The Pavillion’s Cafe Stelle transformed into a fashion house using tables as makeshift catwalk. This event was a huge in-house incorporation between the schools in Lim Kok Wing (LKW) University of Creative Technology. The main theme features fashion designs by their School of Fashion and Retail Design students. The models were also in-house, with hairdo made by the students hailing from LKW Hair Design Lifestyle Academy. Singers trained in LKW Sound and Music Design Academy also entertained the crowd with 5 to 6 songs – one memorable one was Simply the Best (originally sung by Tina Turner).

True to LKW theme, most attendees came in black colored attire. Also not surprising, most of the pieces featured were black-based, except for two pieces – the Egyptian-themed pieces had full blast color i.e. teal and red. The first set of pieces was by LKW’s best designers across semesters. The set started off with uniform-themed pieces with sailors, police and pilot uniforms paraded by the models. Next in the set was African-themed with colorful headgears to lighten up the black-white foundation of the night. The aforementioned Egyptian theme pieces were also thrown into the mix.

Maroon 5 Live in KL

Posted by kenchill. Events, Flyers, Music

More and more international acts are scheduled to perform in Malaysia for 2011 and Maroon 5 is one of them!! They will be coming over on the 29th of April 2011 and will be performing at the Stadium Putra, Bukit Jalil.

Maroon 5 have released two multi-platinum studio albums (2002’s Songs About Jane and 2007’s It Won’t Be Soon Before Long), scored a string of hit singles (“This Love,” “She Will Be Loved,” “Harder to Breathe,” “Sunday Morning,” “Makes Me Wonder”), won three Grammy Awards, and sold 15 million albums around the world. Now the Los Angeles quintet is back with its third-studio album, entitled Hands All Over — a killer hybrid of rock, pop, funk, and R&B, that showcases the band’s considerable strengths: buoyant, unforgettable melodies, sleek, stylish grooves, charged lyrics about turbulent relationships, and crisp, dynamic performances.

Zeitgeist: Moving Forward

Posted by kenchill. Events, Flyers

You may recall that in 2008/2009, Palate Palette screened two thought-provoking films: ‘Zeitgeist: The Movie’ and its sequel ‘Zeitgeist: Addendum’. When we heard that Zeitgeist: Moving Forward is planned to be released worldwide in January 2011, we thought it would be a great idea to host a screening!

This January 2011, Palate Palette proudly presents Zeitgeist: Moving Forward, by director Peter Joseph, a feature length documentary work, which will present a case for a needed transition out of the current socioeconomic monetary paradigm which governs the entire world society.

YOU are invited to our weekly Ink & Drink nights at 8pm, every Wednesday this January starting tomorrow!

There’ll be HAPPY HOURS ALL NIGHT for the tattooed (or friends with one), and tribal-influenced belly dancing by Nanci the Bohemian Barbiedoll at 9pm! Careful, she might whoop out a sword outta nowhere.

Over the last 2 months, many have walked out of Palate Palette with fabulous tattoos inked live by Blackcat, Inked, Hustla Ink and Long&Hard. We love them to bits – the girls, the boys, the awesome tatts…

Malaysian Secondhand Serenade fans (SHS) are in for a big treat as the American chart topping band is soon to rock Kuala Lumpur on 11 January 2011 at the Bentley Auditorium in Mutiara Damansara.

Thanks to the main organizer Theatrical Records and main sponsor Kayu Nasi Kandar, Malaysian SHS fans will have the rocking opportunity to watch them perform live or if lucky, get up close and personal with the band during the signing autograph session.

The Emo Pop and Acoustic rock band fronted by vocalist John Vesely accompanied by fellow sessionists Steve Shebby on bass, Luke Vesely on keyboards, Ryan Cook on lead guitar and Tome Brefogle on drums, promises Malaysian SHS fans an hour of a mind blowing performance with hits such as the hot single Fall For You, It’s Not Over and many more.
