The 3rd edition of Innovation Enabling Transformation was launched at the Westin Hotel, KL on the 15th of January 2010. The book is a compilation of speeches gave by Tan Sri Dato Dr. Lim Kok Wing throughout the past few years.

A long and close friend of Lim Kok Wing, Datuk Paddy Bowie had the honors to be open the event. Her speech was delightful and casual, in which she humorously mentioned that she did not know what ‘Kok Wing‘ meant in Chinese, but the word ‘Wing‘ did definitely suit Lim Kok Wing as he did spread his wings to fly and excel in his career.

The first Sony Alpha Pro Shop was launched on the 9th of January 2010. It is in fact, Studio Zaloon (which was already open for business several months ago), operated by Uncle Chin, a name he is more commonly referred to as by the members of the Alphanatics forum.

Studio Zaloon was already popular with users of the Sony Alpha DSLR system, as his shop caters to and stocks loads to A-mount lenses and also Sony Alpha accessories. You can get Tamron and Sigma lenses for the Sony Alpha there, usually ready in stock or by orders (which takes only a few days to get to his shop).

Event : A Common Faith: Steve McCurry’s Travels through the Muslim World
Date : 7 January 2010 – 8 April 2010
Category : Exhibition

People are what motivate Steve McCurry. His religious views have seldom been recorded but the faith that has surrounded him on his journeys is Islam. McCurry rarely gets close to the outwardly religious lives of Muslims. What we see is the less formalised expressions of devotion: a man at his food stall immersed in a book that is unmistakably the Qur’an, or a brick maker at prayer surrounded by his dusty production line. The backdrops do not conform to the usual images of Islam, nor do the subjects. Seldom are they just ‘a Muslim’; they are always people, individuals going about their lives, typically in difficult situations. Although the shadow of war and adversity hangs over much of McCurry’s work, his views are far from hopeless. Most provide an uplifting insight into lives that are beset with problems and yet are normal for those living them. The resilience of the human spirit can be seen everywhere, as can the transcendent beauty of nature.

Steve McCurry’s Bio:

Steve McCurry, recognised universally as one of today’s finest imagemakers, has won many of photography’s top awards. Best known for his evocative colour photography, McCurry captures the human struggle and joy. He has searched for and found the unforgettable; many of his images have become modern icons. Born in Philadelphia, McCurry graduated from Pennsylvania State University. After working at a newspaper for two years, he left for India to freelance. It was in India that McCurry learned to watch and wait on life. If you wait, he realised, people will forget your camera and the soul will drift up into view. McCurry is driven by an innate sense of curiosity and wonder about the world and everyone in it. He has an uncanny ability to cross boundaries of language and culture to capture stories of human experience. For 20 years he has used Epson printers to help accomplish his vision.

This is the second part of the 2-part coverage. Check out the coverage of the Indie and Chillout stage here: http://www.lifeinkl.com/2010/01/09/rock-the-world-9-indie/. The heavy afternoon rain forced most of us to take shelter in the media tent, foregoing performances by bands such as Blind Tribe (they were playing when the rain started, and continued playing), Saturnine, Yuna and Disagree.

There was the usual local clothing labels around the venue, this on in particular, the newer Envelove, who stocks the famous Badger (from Bandung, Indonesia) brand.

Republic of Brickfields is no stranger to the local music scene and is a staple band at the Rock The World series (no Koffin Kanser this year though). Recently, they opened for Search at Mon’t Kiara and today, they had a real surprise in store for fans.
