Fly FM 4th Anniversary

Disagree

This year’s Flyniversary started well early in the evening, at about 4pm with Couple as the opening act. I only managed to get to the venue at about 7.30pm due to the downpour which lasted from 5pm till 8.30pm. Anyways, even with the heavy rain, the crowd were still standing in front of the stage, entertained by performers like Shila (OIAM), James Baum and also One Buck Short.

VIP ticket holders got to have dinner and drinks at the special VIP tent while waiting for the second part of the event to start at 8pm, with Caprice being the first performer on stage. He brought along Annatasha for the first song, Thinking Of You. For more pictures, do check out http://www.lifeinkl.com/2009/11/21/4th-flyniversary-pictures/

Disagree

After Caprice, the kompang(? gamelan?) ensemble came on stage and I knew it was Disagree, as they had a similar setup during the Digi Music Live event (featuring The All-American Rejects). Luckily the rain was really slow this time and I could maneuver my way around the stage to get some pictures. The stage was really high, about 2meters in height.

Disagree

Disagree, played a similar set to the Digi Music Live one, with a couple of songs from their debut album and a few from their new one. Of course, Crumbs was the crowd favorite in their set.

Disagree

Yuna

It was not just Fly FM who was celebrating their birthday that night, it was also Yuna’s birthday. Birthday girl got a huge huge welcome from the crowd, one of the loudest that night, if not the loudest. She traded her trademark white electric guitar with an acoustic guitar and spent some time on the keyboards. The DJs even came up on stage to cajole the crowd into singing a birthday song for her as well.

Yuna

Crowd

The 15,000 strong crowd. The DJs said it was 20,000 but I doubt it. Hmmm…

Faizal Tahir

Faizal Tahir, who made headlines during the 2nd Flyniversary (who also played during the 3rd Flyniversary) played an awesome show that night. The bare-chested ‘Superman’ act during the 2nd Flyniversary nearly wrecked his singing career, but luckily for him, it made him even more famous.

Faizal Tahir

Right from the start you knew that Faizal was going to do some Michael Jackson as he was donning a MJ t-shirt and a pair of black gloves. After performing one of his own songs, he and the band went into a medley of MJ songs which included Black or White, Beat It, Smooth Criminal and also They Don’t Care About Us. Really well-executed, with style and flair.

DJs

The DJs did not take shelter but went right to the end of the stage instead, under the rain. Of all the Fly FM deejays, it seems that Hunny Madu is the most popular and most wanted deejay. Huuuugeee!!!

Estranged

Estranged, one of our most famous rock bands (who performed at the MTV World Stage Live In Malaysia) also made their appearance tonight (they also performed at the previous Flyniversary). Kadak, who has been their sessionist bassist for quite some time was also there tonight.

Estranged

Rich was all out that night, enjoying himself in the rain as well while performing their hit singles such as Yang Pernah and of course Itu Kamu which sparked a massive sing along from the crowd and as well as Fly FM crew members.

Rich - Estranged

Joe Flizzow

Joe Flizzow came on stage with an exaggerated style (no, not in a Maserati this time). I’m not sure if he is filthy rich or what, but bringing suit cases of faux money and throwing it out to the crowd wasn’t really ‘cool’. Unless he is really really rich (like 50cent or some sort). More ‘money’ was thrown out to the crowd when he sang Do It Duit.

Duit duit

The ‘money’ all in the air. They said you could use it at the PUSH Skateshop for discounts, but I’m not too sure about that though.

Bittersweet

Bittersweet, a band who has a large following and also a large presence in the local scene was up next and they only manage to throw in about 3 songs, which included Burn Berlin Burn. Their next album is, well, in progress, as they are gathering more money to fund it.

Bittersweet

Pijie was wearing a really unusual t-shirt this time. Unusual because he usually dons a white and black formal outfit or a cardigan, or a striped shirt. The bassist, Emai has a really neat haircut, something like one of them Changcuters (Noh adopted their hairstyle as well).

Bittersweet

Bittersweet

Bunkface

‘Through My Window’ culprits, Bunkface wast he last band of the night. They were donning some kinda cool leather-neon jacket which looks like a mixture of MJ + Daft Punk style.

Sam - Bunkface

Bunkface

Bunkface

While playing Situasi, the fireworks went off behind the stage and it was an awesome sight to behold. Bunkface sure are happy that they had the honours to perform under the fireworks for the 4th Flyniversary. After that, they did a nice acoustic song before letting Lapsap taking over and turning the whole area into a large dance floor.
