Laila’s Lounge came on stage without its vocalist, who was apparently stuck in the infamous Kuala Lumpur traffic madness. The gig had to go on, so the guitarist became the replacement vocalist, albeit a bit off tune, but it’s better than nothing!
The second installment of the UOX PLAY event was held at Bukit Bintang Plaza rooftop on the 13th of December 2008. It was scheduled to start at 5pm, but only started at 6pm due to some sound check delays. Nevertheless, the event ended on time and delays between bands were kept to a minimum.
The venue was quite big, but I the stage area could have been bigger. Besides the stage area, there were of course the Celcom booths to promote their UOX product, Junk booth
The first of three Livesounds (http://www.livesounds.com.my) event was held at the Rainforest Sports Bar located just outside of the True Fitness gym at Pavilion. The headlining band for the night was of course, Andra & The Backbone who was supported by our very own Lightcraft (in case you guys didn’t know, they got the name from a lighting shop along Jalan Loke Yew).
Due to some internal delays, we only managed to reach the venue at 9.30pm. Do note that parking at Pavilion is charged a flat rate of RM8.00 after 8pm (or is it 6pm?). Looks like the organisers wanted to fill up the venue as they plan to start the event at 10pm. No worries there, but I had to make my way to the entrance located outside of Pavilion to collect my media pass
Do check out the lowdown on this event (http://www.lifeinkl.com/2008/12/17/steven-coconuttreez-live-in-malaysia-the-lowdown/) and read about why it was a major disaster where delays were long and Steven & CoconutTreez only managed to play 2 (TWO!!!) songs after midnight.
I decided to dedicate that entire post on ranting about why the event was a failure and make a new post on the photography of the bands (and also a short write up). Again, I symphatize to those who spent
First and foremost, before you start wasting your time reading this post, I would just like to say that this event was a total disaster. It was a total waste of time and money to anyone who paid RM38/RM45 for the tickets. It was a pure letdown to everyone, audience and band members (especially Steven & CoconutTreez who flew all the way down to play for us)
Couple will be organising an album release party for their upcoming album Teenage Disc Fantastic at the MCPA Hall this 28 December. This would be their second album, the first one being Top Of The Pop which was released about 2 years ago. Bunkface, Yuna, The Dearly Missed, The Hollows and The Peanuts will be playing as well.
Event is slated to start at 1pm and tickets will be priced at RM18 each.
If you haven”t read Part 1, check it out here: http://www.lifeinkl.com/2008/12/09/music-against-racism-part-1/
The organisers were kind enough to give us a t-shirt inside the media pack. The t-shirt has the Music Against Racism graphic printed on the front with the tag line One Love, One Heart, One Nation and is manufactured by crazeecausa (I think it is pronounced as crazy-kow-sa).
Laila’s Lounge recently launched their debut EP, titled Kosong. I only found out the EP’s title after opening the cover as there is no other information printed on the outside besides the band’s name and the wonderful colorful artwork (well, besides the copyright and publisher’s information)
Celcom’s University of X will be organising their second U.O.X. Play event at BB Plaza Rooftop this time on the 13th of December 2008. It will start from 5pm until midnight. There will be 2 bands from Indonesia who will be the highlight of the event, and they are The S.I.G.I.T. and White Shoes & The Couples Company (or WSTCC for short, check out our article on them previously, http://www.lifeinkl.com/2008/05/19/white-shoes-and-the-couples-company/).
Besides the 2 invited bands, our local bands will be performing as well. Bands include Bittersweet, Butterfingers, Bunkface, Stonebay, Bus Company, Tempered Mental, Seven, Laila’s Lounge
