Death Magnetic in Malaysia Sept 15th

Posted by kenchill. Categories Music

The promotion for Metallica‘s latest album, Death Magnetic is showing its presence here in Malaysia as well! I spotted this poster at Tower Records recently and I was surprised! Heck.

The Malaysian Edition of the album will be selling for a mere RM29.90!! Incredibly cheap I should say.

The Standard Edition which includes a 3D poster will be selling for RM51.50.

What’s the difference between the Malaysian and Standard editions of the CD? Crap. I am speculating that the Malaysian edition will come in a standard jewel case (the usual plastic cover for the cd) and the Standard edition will come in the digipack (the cardboard folding case).

Oh, yes, there’s also the ultimate package, which includes the Standard Edition album, the 3D poster and a Platinum Mission:Metallica Experience (an online thing) going for a whopping RM73.50. Owh!

As a Malaysian, I shall go for the barebones Malaysian Edition of the album!!!

The album was leaked on the internet on September 2 when some store in France started selling the album. Many (millions?) people swarmed to download it the instance the torrent appeared and I managed to get the 192kbps mp3 version of it.

After listening through around 10 times in the office, I can say that my favorite track at the moment will be Suicide & Redemption. The song starts with the guitar riffing and the bass rumbling in the background. The riffing continues on until 3:40 when the tempo slows down and at 3:50 a moody solo comes in, letting you relax where until 5:00 where the 4:52 the metal comes in and does not stop 5 minutes later. Yes, the song is a whopping 9 minutes and 57 seconds long. Holy crap. The average song length the album is like 7 minutes and 45 seconds.

The Day That Never Comes is also one of the strongest tracks on the album. Do check out the music video here, it really suits the song. The intro solo has some Fade To Black sounding tune in it though. The song and music structure is very much like Fade To Black as well, an intro, mellow sounding during the vocals, a heavy chorus part, back to the vocals, then the heavy chorus, bridge and the outro. No the sunshine never comes, it really sounds like a track from Load at this part (I will find out which one).

The into on Broken, Beat & Scarred really sounds like it was from St. Anger. Heck. But once it’s past the intro at around 0:40, it sounds all good.

Its up to you folks to download it or buy the original but I am definitely going to get the original one when its out. Maybe I should get the Standard Edition instead since the St. Anger album managed to win my brother a guitar autographed by Metallica? Hmmm…
