Boys and girls, today we shall learn our ABC. Let’s start.

There you go, now you know your ABC!

That’s right folks, Hujan‘s self-titled debut album is finally out, after 2 EP releases (1 of which was released waaaaay back last year). There are a total of 14 songs on the album and contains most of the songs from the previous 2 EPs and a few new ones. The songs left out are Hiba, Lepaskan Aku, Ludah Amerika, and Sedih. The new songs (new in terms of unreleased in single or EP form) are Dugaannya, Jiwa Kelajuan, Rantai Rasa, Luka Mana, Bila Aku Sudah Tiada and Pijak Hatiku.

The first track of the album is Dugaannya, very catchy riffs and features a nice rhythm to move your body to. Awesome song to play during gigs I shall say. I have missed around 2 months of Hujan gigs, so I am not sure what they are up to this time around, but I will catch them this Saturday at Ruums, so there.

Jiwa Kelajuan is a song from the soundtrack of Evolusi KL Drift. Sounds weird to me, not really my style. Heck. Maybe its because of the cheesy ‘Woo Hoo’ shouts and the lyrics, which are kinda cheesy as well.

The freshest song for me is Bila Aku Sudah Tiada, which is very much different from the version on their MySpace page and the downloaded version (oooops) which I have. Stronger guitars on the intro, much stronger bassline, and new guitar strums sprinkled here and there. I’m not sure if this version is the same as the version played on the radio.

The slowest song on the album is Pijak Hatiku, which also have the most repetitive lyrics.

After my first few listens, I can hear subtle differences in some of their previously released songs.

Compared to the 1,2,3 Go? EP, the songs on the album are not so high-pitched, with a more muted tone but the bassline is much more prominent in most of the songs.
Kuala Lumpur has a more muted intro.
Ahmoi Chantek with a more twangy intro solo line.
The vocals on Pagi Yang Gelap is more muted and the bassline on the intro is more exciting.

Compared to the recent check check rock rock EP, most of the songs sound the same, with just some minor tweak on the equalizers and volumes.

The arrangement of the songs is interesting as well, the songs will gradually put you into the Hujan mood, and when you reach mid point, you are already in the mood. A couple of tracks later, you are rocking with Aku Scandal, Pagi Yang Gelap and then Empayarmu. I reckon they should put Ludah Amerika in as well. But that is not my call.

This album was published by Noh Phrofile and distributed by FMC Music Sdn. Bhd. and retails for a low low low price of RM25.90. Don’t kid yourself, get the original and give your support to them. Yes, sue me, I’m a Hujan fanboy.
